Marlin Banuelos

Assistant Director

B.A. Political Economy
University of California, Berkeley

Bio:

Born in Colorado and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up fond of learning about the world and becoming the best version of myself. As a result, I decided to leave L.A. to study at UC Berkeley, and I became the first in my family to graduate college. I earned my B.A. in Political Economy and enriched my learning experience by studying and working abroad in Cuba, Spain and France. It was also during undergrad that I began working in student services and discovered my passion for helping others, so I decided to pursue a career in admissions. The journey of self-improvement is something very important to me and that is never-ending! Now as an admission counselor at USC, I look forward to helping students navigate the admission process and their journey toward achieving their aspirations. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and outdoor sports, so you can likely find me trekking mountains or running by the beach.

Why USC?

Students will have it all by studying at USC and living in sunny Los Angeles! They will get to learn and work with amazing faculty and have access to all kinds of resources and opportunities, on and off campus. With USC’s strong and diverse community, students will also easily find their sense of belonging at USC and become part of the Trojan Family, whose support will follow their success throughout the rest of their lives.

Admission Advice:

The admission process can be stressful and daunting, but remember, you are in control, and everything tends to work out for the best. All you have to do is be true to yourself and trust the process! Take the time to reflect and be genuine, especially when answering the essay prompt questions. Also do your research about the schools you’re applying to, and base your decision on the opportunities and environment where you see yourself thriving the most. The admission process is all about self-discovery: figuring out who you are, what matters to you, and who you want to become. Again, don’t stress too much and enjoy the process!
