B.S. Global Health
University of Southern California
Bio:
I am a proud Guatemalteca and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, specifically the Pico-Union area. USC has always been a part of my life and for the most part my backyard. I am an alumna of the USC Neighborhood Academic Initiative Program and graduated Foshay Learning Center in 2015 and in the fall, USC became my home. I pursued a B.S. in Global Health and along my four years at SC I created countless memories, valued friendships, and learned a couple of life lessons. Throughout my undergraduate experience I became invested in helping high school students through programs such as NAI and SMASH Academy who were learning about the college application process and were preparing themselves academically. These experiences, as well as my own – including being a first-gen student, have allowed me to better understand the questions and concerns students and their families may have in regards to applying to college and succeeding at a university.
Why USC?
USC is a dynamic institution that balances rigorous academics, a lively campus, and athletics to create a place unique to its own. We also have the greatest marching band in the history of the universe – The Trojan Marching Band!
Admission Advice:
Two things: First, don’t be afraid to show us who you are and be yourself! The personal essay component of the application truly allows you to give your application a voice. Second, do some research on the universities you are applying to. You should be looking into what the university can offer you both academically and non-academically and what you can provide in return to those areas.
